Springfield, a former mill town located close to metropolitan Eugene, is well known for its quick access to scenic mountain and sporting opportunities.
Located between the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers, Springfield offers access to white-water rafting, boating, swimming and fishing. Enjoy the fishing, sailing, backpacking, hiking and rafting activities available in Oregon's mountains, rivers and lakes, all activities just a few hours from town.
Springfield is known for its commitment to recreation and sports for children of all ages. Willamalane Park & Recreation District provides residents with the Lively Park Swim Center, one of the only indoor wave pools in the Northwest, as well as an array of parks and other facilities all over town.
Although neighboring Eugene boasts the University, Springfield is growing faster than its cosmopolitan neighbor Eugene. The Gateway Mall features two Movie Theaters, major chain departments stores and local stores of every variety. Downtown Springfield hosts many antique shops.
If you are visiting the area, the Springfield Museum is a highly recommended stop. As with other area communities, Springfield has its roots in the timber industry, and the Museum tells the tale.
Springfield is currently home to McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, but one of the current controversies surrounds the pending move of Eugene’s Peace Health Hospital to Springfield and the possible relocation of McKenzie-Willamette Hospital to Eugene.
